Grammar Core: Oxford Future & Perfect Tenses
B1 testing criteria heavily evaluates structural transformations and usage context. Review the charts and perform exercises.
1. Going To
Used for **intentions** made before speaking, or for **predictions based on clear evidence** in the current moment.
✓ Example:
"We are going to check in our luggage online tonight."
✗ Common Mistake:
"I going to book the hotel..." (Missing 'to be')
2. Will / Won't
Used for **spontaneous decisions, future promises**, or **general beliefs** without immediate evidence.
✓ Example:
"Don't worry, I will remember our airport transfer tickets."
✗ Common Mistake:
"I will to travel soon." (Do not use infinite 'to' after will)
3. Present Continuous for Future
Used for fixed, pre-arranged, and confirmed **plans or appointments** (usually with other people, times, or bookings).
✓ Example:
"We are flying to London at 10 AM tomorrow."
✗ Common Mistake:
"I am travel tomorrow." (Missing participle suffix -ing)
4. Present Perfect (Experiences)
Focuses on **experiences** in life up to the present. Precise time of occurrence is unknown/unimportant.
✓ Example:
"She has uploaded her vlog to social media."
✗ Common Mistake:
"I have travelled last year." (Do not use with past time phrases)
5. Ever / Never
**Ever** is typically reserved for questions querying experience. **Never** defines complete absence of experience.
✓ Example:
"Have you ever set a weak online password?"
✗ Common Mistake:
"I haven't never seen London." (Avoid double negative)
6. Just / Already / Yet
**Just** (very recently), **Already** (earlier than expected), **Yet** (expected action; used in negatives/questions at the end).
✓ Example:
"They haven't downloaded the travel app yet."
✗ Common Mistake:
"I have yet finished." (Incorrect position of yet)

My Amazing Trip to London

After we finally boarded and flew across, customs checked our digital booking and verified our travel documents. I was relieved I had packed my international passport inside my hand luggage rather than checking it in! Once inside London, finding comfortable accommodation near the center was straightforward because of the app recommendations.
Every afternoon, I took photos of famous sights like Big Ben and Tower Bridge. I made sure to upload my high-quality photos to social media to share them with friends. It has truly been a wonderful travel experience, combining physical exploration with modern digital safety!
